Chromite (FeCr₂O₄) is a critical strategic mineral characterized by a high specific gravity and weak magnetic properties. To achieve metallurgical-grade commercial requirements—typically requiring a Cr₂O₃ grade of >45% and a Chrome-to-Iron (Cr/Fe) ratio of >2.5—a single separation method is rarely sufficient.
Our Chromite Ore Beneficiation Solution utilizes a highly optimized "Gravity + Magnetic" combined flowsheet. By leveraging multi-stage classification, we extract premium Lumpy Chrome early in the process using gravity jigs, while routing fine particles through a milling, spiral, and magnetic purification circuit. This ensures high recovery rates, deep purification of iron impurities, and an exceptionally fast return on investment.

Because coarse "lumpy chrome" commands a significant price premium in the global market, our flowsheet is strictly designed to avoid over-crushing.
Raw ore is primarily crushed by a Jaw Crusher. It is then fed into a Circular Vibrating Screen which classifies the material into two distinct streams: +5mm and -5mm. The oversized rock is finely crushed using a Roller Crusher (which minimizes dust generation and prevents over-pulverization) and returned to the screen, forming a closed-circuit loop.
The +5mm fraction is incredibly valuable. Instead of grinding it, it is sent directly to Mineral Jigs. The pulsating water action of the jig effectively recovers coarse, lumpy chromite concentrate immediately, maximizing your commercial revenue.

The -5mm fraction enters a Ball Mill operating in a closed circuit with a High-Frequency Screen. Once the material is ground down to -2mm, it is fed into an array of Spiral Chutes. The spirals act as high-capacity roughers, utilizing centrifugal and gravity forces to separate fine heavy chromite from lighter silica and waste rock.

Gravity separation recovers the chromite, but it also recovers heavy magnetic iron minerals that lower the commercial value of the product. The gravity concentrate is passed through a Medium-Intensity Magnetic Separator. This specialized equipment pulls out the residual iron impurities, deeply purifying the chromite and dramatically boosting the final Chromium-to-Iron (Cr/Fe) ratio.

| Process Link | Main Equipment | Functional Characteristics |
|---|---|---|
| Crushing | Jaw Crusher, Roller Crusher | Two-stage closed-circuit crushing. Roller crushers prevent generating excess dust. |
| Milling & Sizing | Ball Mill, High-Frequency Screen | Liberates fine chromite crystals while strictly controlling particle size. |
| Gravity Separation | Mineral Jig, Spiral Chute | Jigs extract premium Lumpy Chrome; Spirals handle high-volume fine sand recovery. |
| Magnetic Separation | Medium-Intensity Magnetic Separator | Deep purification. Strips out magnetic iron to elevate the Cr/Fe ratio. |
| Auxiliary | Belt Conveyors, Slurry Pumps | Ensures consistency, stability, and automated material transfer. |
A: Smelters prefer coarse lumps of chromite (typically between 5mm and 50mm) for ferrochrome production because fine powders can blow out of the smelting furnaces. Lumpy chrome always sells at a massive premium over fine concentrates. Our flowsheet uses Jigs to instantly extract this +5mm material before the ball mill can destroy it.
A: Gravity separation (Jigs and Spirals) is the cheapest and most efficient way to discard light waste rock (like silica) and recover bulk heavy minerals. However, heavy iron-rich minerals often settle alongside the chromite. Because chromite is only weakly magnetic and iron is strongly magnetic, passing the gravity concentrate through a magnetic separator cleanly strips the iron away, solving the biggest problem in chrome mining: achieving a >2.5 Cr/Fe ratio.
GravityMineral provides comprehensive Turnkey EPC Solutions for your chrome mining project. From initial exploratory ore testing and custom plant engineering to equipment manufacturing and on-site commissioning, we ensure your plant hits its target Cr₂O₃ grades and Cr/Fe ratios.
